Have Your Say: British Hallmarking Council Launches Industry-Wide Survey

Yesterday saw the launch of the British Hallmarking Council’s UK-wide industry survey to gather your feedback.

The BHC wants to hear from people and businesses in the UK who use, are required to use, or may be affected by hallmarking, on the practical application of the Hallmarking Act (1973), with a particular focus on where it may benefit from clarification or modernisation.

Earlier this year in October, it was announced that the Government have decided to abolish the BHC and bring hallmarking under the Department for Business and Trade, meaning the Hallmarking Act 1973 will be amended to reflect new regulatory arrangements.

This is an opportunity for members of the jewellery and precious metals industry to have their voices heard. As the oldest form of consumer protection in the world, hallmarking has proven itself hugely valuable to both the end customer and the sponsor.

The consultation is being run at the request of the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), with a closing date of Monday 22 December at 9am.
